Wastewater Utility

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

We have recently been cleaning the sanitary sewer main line in the street and have noticed an increased amount of “disposable rags”, paper and other items in the sewer.  Although a lot of the products for cleaning to hygiene are proposed to be biodegradable, they do not function that way in our sewer system.

Recently, we have seen an influx of use of sanitary biodegradable and would like to put the reminder out to the public that these biodegradable products are not friendly to the sanitary sewer system and its infrastructure.  In fact, they are becoming more of a problem involved in the general maintenance processes with partial clogging and jamming of pumps and sometimes lines.  We are seeing more of these products in our lines, screens and pumps which cause premature failure of the equipment that are used to move the waste.

At this time, we are asking for help from you to promote stopping the disposal of these biodegradable product in the sewer systems through sinks and toilets.  These biodegradables cause issue that you may not see at your residence, but your neighbors down the line may see.  Remember “When in doubt, throw it out, flushing’s not the key”.

Thank you,
