GreenStep Cities

About GreenStep Cities: Minnesota GreenStep Cities is a voluntary challenge, assistance, and recognition program to help cities decide which actions to take to achieve their sustainability and quality-of-life goals. This free continuous improvement program is based upon 29 best practices that are tailored to Minnesota cities, focus on cost savings and energy use reduction, and encourage civic innovation. More at www.MnGreenStep.org.

On March 15, 2022 the City Council adopted a resolution to participate in the GreenStep Cities Program and appointed Alison Holland as the City's GreenStep Coordinator.

Minnesota GreenStep Cities is a free voluntary challenge, assistance, and recognition program offered by the MN Pollution Control Agency, the League of MN Cities, the University of MN, and other partner organizations. Suggested program actions, based upon evidence from MN cities, focus on cost savings, energy use reduction, and the encouragement of civic innovation.

The first “step” is to pass a resolution at a City Council meeting authorizing the city to participate in the program. Mora passed a resolution at the March 15, 2022 City Council meeting. Since that time, Holland has been working to gather information on “best practices” already in place here. For example, the City of Mora has EV charging stations, a growing system of parks and trails, energy and water-saving incentives, and a comprehensive plan and related city codes to support responsible growth and natural resource protections.

Later this year, the city will gather community input on priorities for future work and the kind of impact or improvement data residents are interested in seeing. If you’d like to be personally notified of public input opportunities for this program, please call the City of Mora at 320-679-1511.
