Open Burning Rules

Just a reminder that burning of leaves without a permit and other items is not allowed pursuant to section 92.32 of the city code. Recreational fires, as well as other burning, are not permitted during a burning ban as determined by the DNR. Recreational fires may only burn dried wood, coal, or charcoal and the fire produces little detectable smoke.

For information on burning outside the city limits please contact your local fire warden or the DNR at 320-679-3683. You should also contact your township clerk for additional requirements for open burning.

The State of Minnesota prohibits burning in cities except for leaf burning by permit during the period of October 17th through November 7th.

You must obtain a permit from the City of Mora in person at City Hall if you want to burn leaves. The permit fee is $10. Complete regulations can be found on the Leaf Burning Permit Application form (see link below).

Open burning does not include the use of outdoor fires for the cooking of food.
